National Volunteer month in the United States takes place in the month of April. Volunteering is still instilled at a young age within our country. Most organizations within our towns, counties and state would not function without volunteers. In many families, volunteerism was handed down for many generations.
April 20 -26, 2025 is National Volunteer Week.
Many fire and rescue departments remain staffed due to the efforts of volunteers. Although Frederick County is a combination system, meaning both career and volunteers staff our departments. Most of the stations and apparatus within the county is owned by the 24 volunteer departments which house department volunteers.
Volunteers come in all shapes and sizes. They come with all different types of backgrounds and knowledge. They pick a cause to volunteer for because they want to make a difference in someone’s life. Some are small differences and others create major changes. Volunteers come to donate their time and resources most often to the efforts of a larger organization and their missions provide valuable support to communities in times of need.
So, if you are out and about offer your services or ask how you can help. Departments are seeking new members to Volunteer as Firefighters, Emergency Medical Technicians, and Rescue Technicians. We hope to inspire you to serve too.
Otherwise, THANK A VOLUNTEER, as this month is dedicated to honoring ALL of the volunteers in our communities as well as encouraging volunteerism.
