Frederick County wins at the 125th Annual Maryland State Firemen’s Association Convention and Conference last week in Ocean City, Maryland.

Conference Awards Winners were:

Zembower Fire Service Training Awards:
• Winner – New Market District Volunteer Fire Department (Co. 15)
• 1st Place Runner Up – Independent Hose Company (Co. 1)
• 2nd Place Runner Up – United Steam Fire Engine Company (Co. 3)

Silver Spring Fire Prevention Trophy Award:
Congratulations to Elyssa Cool of the Vigilant Hose Company who is the recipient of this years’ Silver Spring Fire Prevention Trophy.
The Silver Spring Trophy was established in 1981 by the Silver Spring Volunteer Fire Department. The award is presented each year at the MSFA Annual Convention to an individual who does the most in fire prevention for his/her community. The award is for an individual effort and, therefore, submission of the entry had to be for one individual rather than a group or department effort. The award recognizes fire prevention activities which the individual performs within his/her community. The trophy is held by the individual for one year and then passed on. The winner receives an individual plaque for permanent possession. Well Done Elyssa!

After the closing ceremony, the annual Maryland State Firemen’s Association Parade is held in Ocean City. The parade line up is a first come, first in line bases. Parade prizes and awards were presented at the Exhibit Hall of the Convention Center upon completion of the parade.

Parade Awards Winners were:

Antique Emergency Apparatus Making Best Appearance (25 Years of Older, Not in Service). This was awarded to United Steam Fire Company for their 1939 Ahrens Fox.

For Fire Engines – 1500 GPM and Over: The Second Best Appearance award was presented to the New Market District Volunteer Fire Company for their Engine 152.

The Brush Truck Making the Best Appearance - The Third Best Appearance awarded was presented to the New Market District Volunteer Fire Company for Brush 156.
